Academic Calendar

The academic year is divided into two terms:

1st term: March to June with exams in July.

2nd term: August to November, with exams in December.

Orientation/Course Registration Week

At the beginning of each term, an "Orientation Week" is held to inform and advise international students personally on all administrative and academic aspects essential for their stay at the Faculty.

Likewise, each student is given personalised assistance in making their choice of courses, according to their expectations and preparation, as well as the contents required by the courses.

This week also sees the completion of course registration at the International Mobility Office.

Academic System

The Faculty of Philosophy and Arts offers 2 types of courses: subjects and seminars. Exchange students can enrol in up to 4 courses per term, and choose subjects and seminars, in the combination of their choice, from the total number of courses of all the degrees offered at the Faculty.

Subjects: these are the main courses within the degree programmes, with more general content.

Timetable and evaluation: the subjects have a 6-hour weekly class load divided into 4 hours of theory classes and 2 hours of "practical work commission". To pass the "subjects" students must take two mid-term exams during the course and then a final oral exam at the end of the classes.

Seminars: Seminars are courses on specific topics for advanced students.

Timetable and evaluation: Seminars have a 4-hour class load per week and are approved through the completion of a final monograph or "research essay".

Certification of studies

The Faculty will issue an official certificate or transcript, stating that the courses taken have been passed, with the grade obtained. This certificate will be sent to the student or to his/her university within 3 months after the completion of the courses. They will also be given a document with the necessary information to establish equivalences and credits, where the class hours and the FFyL grading scale are stated.
